Lesson 8 - Mosaic Effect

When you first start learning PSP you see others
posting images that have wonderful effects to them
Many use plugins/filters that you will learn about later
but for now you will find that your PSP have lots of wonderful
effects there ready to play with.
One of these is the Mosaic effect.
Open up a new canvas
400 x 400
Go to your tubes file and find a nice tube
that you want for your image and add that
to your canvas.
Now go to Effects/Texture Effects/Mosaic Antique
Use my settings below
Now go to Layers Add new Raster Layer
Add your tube again on top and place it slightly to the right
of the mosaic image
Go to Effects/3-D Effects /Drop Shadow
see below then click OK
Go to Layers Merge/Merge All Flatten
Crop around your image and add a border or frame
I added a border then clicked in with magic wand
and went to Effects/3_D Effects and did an Inner Bevel.
Now you can add your text and copyright info to your tag
then go to File/SaveAs/JPEG
Hope you have enjoyed this tutorial

Lesson 7 - Preset Shapes

Preset shapes can be used for so many things
here I will show you the concept of them
and what can be done.
Open up your PSP
I use PSP8 so if you have different version and need
help with tools, post a question on the Help Desk.
New Canvas 400 x 400
Open up an image from your file that you would like
to see filled in this shape.Ensure its resized small.
Click on your Preset Tool
Your settings at the top ensure that they are the same as mine
keeping that top box unchecked as you do not want to retain style.
Now if you have this preset 'Star 4 ' in your selection box
choose that or another star that you have.
Now go to your colour materials pallet and choose white to fill
and a nice gradient in the top one see below
Now drag out the star across your canvas ...see below
Once you have it as large as you want it go to
Layers merge / Merge visible
Now go your magic wand and click on the white area
and whilst the ants are still crawling, go to your image
and copy it. Then back to the star, right click and
paste into selection.
This puts your image inside the star.(thats why the image needs
to be small then it does not distord too much.
Go to Selections/Select None
You need to add your text and copyright.
You can merge layers and flatten or if you want it transparent
background copy it and paste into Animations Shop
and save as a gif there.
Remember that PSP is all about trying new things.
With this one you can add whatever you want in a preset shape.
If you look at the top banner I put the magic wand on the white,
went to Effects 3-D Effects and did Inner bevel.
Mess around with effects and have fun!!!
Hope you have enjoyed the Tutorial and have learnt
a little bit more about PSP

Lesson 6 - Learning Layers

In this tutorial we will be working with layers
Many PSP tutorials work in layers and its important
to learn about this early on. Once you are comfortable
working with layers, you will see how important they are.
Open up your PSP
New canvas 500 x 500
You need to be sure now that you can see your Layer
Pallet. See below. I have mine dragged under the materials
If you cannot see it , go to View/Pallets/Layers
see below
Now you have that visible, go to Layers/New Raster Layer
as we continue in the tutorial you will see these add up
on your layer pallet.
Go to your Preset Tool and choose your heart preset
if you do not have one ask on the help desk
and add to your preset shapes folder in your Jasc/Corel
Once its there be sure that your Foreground colour is set to
Gold Gradient and the background is set to null
make the size settings as below
ensure the retain style is UNCHECKED
Now drag out a small heart on the canvas.
Go to selections/Select None
Go to Effects/3-D Effects/Inner bevel
copy my settings then click OK
Layers / New Raster Layer
Click on the Text Tool.
Ensure stroke width is set to 0.0
I used Comic Sans Text size 48
Type the letter I then go to Selections / Select None(deselect)
Effects/3D Effects and do the inner bevel again
Click on Mover Tool and move the I next to the heart
Thats where layers come into their own. You can move stuff
just where you want it.
Now go to Layer/New Raster Layer
(you can name these layers if you wish)
Now Type the letter P and then deselect
Again place it to the side under the I
add the inner bevel
Layer new Raster Layer and add the letter S and inner bevel
Layer New Raster Layer and add the letter P and inner bevel
move them all around until they are next to each other.
You can see mine on the banner above.
You will now have lots of layers showing
If you hover your mouse over each layer you can see what is on that layer.
Now go to Layers/Merge Visible
Go to preset shape and click on Ring preset.
see settings below
Drag out a link for the top of your tag over the I
Do the inner bevel and deselect
Layers merge Merge visible
We are going to make it look more gold now
Go to Effects/Texture Effects/Sculpture
Find the gold pattern and use my settings (see the black arrow?
this is showing that you should click to lock the proof window
and the one next to it.)
Copy my settings below
Ok, now we are going to add your name.
Layer New Raster Layer
Choose a nice script font. Have a look what you have.
If you want something different you need to learn about
downloading fonts HERE Beware that font downloading
is addictive and you may get lost in 'Font land'
I used size 48 and choose a colour you like
in the background fill material pallet. (bottom box)
Now type your name and deselect.
Add an Inner bevel - same setting as before.
Go to mover tool and move the name over the gold heart and letters
Layers Merge/Merge visible.
Layer New Raster Layer
Click on preset tool again and choose the ring
ensure your Forground is set to gold and background null again
drag out a small ring which will be the link from name to gold tag.
Do an inner bevel on it, then effects/Texture/Sculpture and gold again
and with mover tool place it on a part of the text linking both text
and gold tag together. Now click on eraser tool

Go to the gold link over the text and erase some of the gold
link away over the text to make it look like its threaded through
see below

Go to Layers/ Merge Visible.
If you want to save it as transparent do not add a drop shadow
take it into Animation Shop and save as a gif.
otherwise go to Effects 3-D Effects and add a drop shadow
Thats it!!!
You now know all about layers.
Don't forget to crop around your tag or your image
will be too big.
If you have any questions please go to our Help Desk
where we will be happy to answer your questions as quickly
as time allows.

Lesson 5 - Framing A Picture

In this tutorial we will learn how to add a nice frame
to a picture.
Open up your PSP Program
I am sure you have taken pictures and have them stored
on your PC so go and find the image you want to use

Once you open that picture in PSP it will be large so
you need to resize it.
Go to Image./Resize
The next box comes up allowing you to resize that to whatever
you want. Try 25%
Its a matter of re-doing this until you get the picture to the right
size that you want. Then click OK
Now it's the right size go to Image/Picture Frame
this opens up a box where you can select any frame thats available
to you in the program
Click on the little drop down arrow

You will then see your selection and choose a frame you like

Your frame is now added.
Go to Layers Merge/Merge All(Flatten)
Now you need to add your text so go to Text Tool
and choose your font and size and add your Text.
Also add your copyright information. This can be placed anywhere
on your image.

You are now finished.Go to File/Save As and save as JPEG
I added some fancy corners to mine and in
another tutorial I will show you how to make these yourself.
They look very effective and finish off a plain frame nicely.
Hope you have enjoyed this tutorial

Lesson 4 - Tube Tool

All about Tubes
You will notice that 'Tubes' are used quite a lot
in PSP.
The reason for this is two things
The first being they are always on a transparent background
and second they can be easily adjusted on size.
Its important that you familiarize yourself with the concept
of using Tubes before you venture into the wonderful
world of 'Tube land' !!
With every version of PSP is given free tubes to play with.
Not always a great selection but enough for this tutorial.
Remember to add the © on your tag with it
either ©CorelTubes or ©JascTubes
Open up a new canvas 300 x 300
Go to Text Tool and Type your name
then add a drop shadow as you did in the other lesson.
Go to Layers / New Raster Layer
click OK
Click on your Picture Tube Tool
Now you should be able to see in your top toolbar
the window which has the drop down arrow see below

Have a look at the tubes you have available and find
one that you like click on it
Now on this you can adjust the size
Adjust the size(scale) to whatever you want.
100 being the max and 10 being the min.
Click on your canvas and it adds the image
Not right? just click the 'undo' and re do it

When you have added your tube you can add a drop
shadow if you wish.
Then go to layers/Merge/Merge all Flatten
This adds the solid background to it.
Crop as required around your name and tubes
and add a border if you wish to your tag as we
did in the other tutorial.
This tutorial has now given you that first intro to tubes
and you will be wanting to add to your collection.
There are many tube places out on the net, but it is
very important you are careful what you use because of
copyright theft.

Select the colour you want for your text
Now click on your Text Tool
and hover over that black line until you
see the )below the A and click
see below

now type what you want and it will type on the curve
if its not doing that then go back and hover again
Once you get the hang of it you will be okay.

While the ants are moving go to Effects/3DEffects
drop Shadow see my settings

Remember that you cannot add a drop shadow unless
you are using a coloured background.
You cannot save a drop shadow on a transparent
